Back in the mid-nineties when the animation biz was booming and Disney features ruled the box office, a bunch of us comic book geeks naively thought: "hey! we should publish our own comics!!"The result was the ensemble masterpiece called HOT MEXICAN LOVE. It was so succesful that we decided to print two (yes two) whopping issues! All kidding aside, this unique jam of artistic talent was the brainchild of artists Albert Calleros, Larry Reynosa and Rob Goodin. If you search the internet (or get a hold of either Albert or Rob) you might still be able to get your hands on both issues. Samurai Slug was the title of my three page epics on both issues and will go down as truly the first time i've had anything published.
After almost a decade in hiatus..... its back! Albert and Rob are now joined by story artist Ira Sherak for HOT MEXICAN LOVE COMICS NUMBER THREE which will be premiering at none other than the ALTERNATIVE PRESS EXPO on April 9-10 in downtown San Francisco.
This latest version of the latin themed art jam will feature a tremendous collection of artists. Namely:

I have to ask the guys if they still have and will bring copies of HMLC #1 and #2. If so then you'll indeed see the crudely drawn adventures of one Samurai Slug!
Y'know what's weird...
I purchased the first two issues of HMLC back when I lived in Detroit - LONG before I knew any of you'z mugs!
Now, granted, I'm a guy who has always enjoyed seeking out 'alternative' and/or 'obscure' comics, but I still think it's pretty nifty that I am now comrades with the same people who contributed to something I just spontaneously picked up and read almost a decade ago.
I still have my copies of them, in fact.
Suffice it to say, I'm honored to be in an anthology with these folks.
From "Samurai Slug" to "Random Anomalies"... quite a journey for an artist!

I've heard the name "Ira Sherak" a lot in just random places...she must get around! THough I don't know anything about her, she seems pretty cool (of course she is, she's a storyboard artist!)

HMLC is a bizarre and quirky group of stories and art. Definitely unique..... oh by the way. Ira is a "he". He's worked on Futurama and The Simpsons.

Oh, man! HMLC.. That really takes me back! I think I was the only person to complete 2 pages for the 1st attempt at #3 back in 2K. It'll be amazing to see how much everyone's art has progressed. (You need to check out Tim Biskup's page in issue #1 to really see progression!)
