APE 2006: It's a Wrap!

A steady stream of art-loving folk streamed through the cozy halls of The Concourse in San Francisco for the second and final day of the ALTERNATIVE PRESS EXPO.

Octavio and I sold a fair amount of books for a two day convention close to our numbers at Wondercon so we are more than pleased. As I mentioned yesterday, APE is now THE convention for us. We talked quite a bit today about coming back here next year and premiering new books and merchandise.

Ronnie brought items with him to comprise a mini booth of sorts with his drawing instruments, a small folding bench (the same one he lugs around to their now famous Sketchcrawls), sketchbooks and copies of “Frog’s Lament” which he traded freely with the many artists and exhibitor’s he’s befriended over the years. As an added bonus, Ron had quaint cloth dust jackets specially made to fit his book. A rather nice touch I must say.

APE is truly unique as a convention because it enables small and homegrown work from artists to be seen and appreciated. There are so many little treasures and artifacts to discover from table to table that are so inspirational. From hand made and limited run comics and books to jewelry and toys, it’s the ultra haven for everything creative.

Major thanks to everyone again for stopping by and supporting us. Thanks to Ronnie for hanging out again on Sunday. He is probably a few dollars poorer from all the cool books he just acquired, enough to tide him over until San Diego… and speaking of, now the prep begins for the big show.
